Voltaic Constructs

Overview

back in 2020, i made a mod for Into the Breach, an incredible tactics game where enemies all declare their actions ahead of time, and you need to carefully attack and push them so that they don't hit anything important. There's a big selection of different mech squads to choose from, which all have different synergies and specialties. There's a big modding scene for the game that's added tons of new mechs, pilots, and environments, and i wanted to give it a shot too!

this is the Voltaic Constructs, a squad based on enemies from Copy Kitty. The main focus is the Krijyl, who can do big damage to many tiles, but it's in a very unwieldy pattern and doesn't push enemies, so it's not too useful defensively. The other two units help push enemies into position to get hit by it — the Zordai has a low-damage sword swing with a configurable direction, and the Hoagall can manufacture weak Exie minions to push enemies from hard-to-reach locations.

Installation

  1. download and install the mod loader.
  2. download the mod, extract the zip and place its contents in the Mods directory.
  3. enable the squad in Mod Options ingame.

zordai Zordai - Prime class

Photon Foil: Slashes the target, pushing it either left or right. 1 damage.

  • 1-core upgrade: Dash any distance before the attack, returning to its starting tile afterwards.
  • 2-core upgrade: Increases damage by 1.

hoagall Hoagall - Science class exie

Deploy Exie: Sucks up the terrain under this unit, creating a Chasm and manufacturing an Exie minion.
(Destroys any Exies currently on the field, and can't be used when already above a Chasm. Exies have a zero-damage dash attack.)

  • 1-core upgrade: Manufacture a Golden Exie, whose armor reduces all weapon damage by 1.
  • 4-core upgrade: Manufacture a mighty Fire Exie, whose attack sets the target on fire.

krijyl Krijyl - Ranged class

Gigabolt: Lightning strikes every second tile in a row. 2 damage.

  • 2-core upgrade: Strikes all the other tiles as well, for 1 damage. These smaller bolts don't damage grid buildings, but the main ones still do.
  • 3-core upgrade: Increases main bolt damage by 2.

You can also swap out for an alternate Krijyl type with the X-Bolt weapon, in the mod options.
